Leveling the Playing Field

In 1988, Rebecca "Becky" Wilson recognized that Memphis was divided, and she decided to do something about it. In its first year, her Bridge Builders® program started with 40 kids from Northside High School (a predominantly African-American, inner-city public school) and Briarcrest Christian School (a predominantly white private school in East Memphis). Today, the program serves over 1500 youth at 55 schools each year.

Leveling the Playing Field: 20 Years of Bridge Builders® shares the story of the history, impact and legacy of this unique Memphis program, which brings together youth from different backgrounds to build relationships and develop leadership skills.
