Voices of Jericho

A new production released in spring 2007, Voices of Jericho: Stories of Jail Diversion shares the stories of individuals with mental illness who are caught in the criminal justice system. This short doc highlights The Jericho Project, a ground-breaking litigation experiment started by the Shelby County Public Defenders Office. Through conversations with Jericho Project clients, this doc gives viewers an inside look at how someone with mental illness navigates through the criminal justice system and toward recovery.

This short doc has received such a positive and enthusiastic response from audiences that TSP has decided to expand the project into a feature-length documentary. During the course of production, we will follow four individuals as they navigate their way through the criminal justice system (from jail, to treatment, to recovery and stability) with help from the members of The Jericho Project’s support system.

We are very pleased to announce that we have secured $50,000 in grants for the feature-length doc, including a United Way of the Mid-South Avron B. Fogelman Venture Fund grant. We are currently seeking matching funds to help us realize our plans. Our goal is to raise $220,000 by December 31, 2008.
